Hunting dragons and snorkelling in and around Komodo

Labuanbajo is a small town at the western most tip of Flores. Whilst it has got a nice backpacker-y flair to it as we keep running into people we’ve met along our travels in Flores, there is not too much to do in the town itself. However, it is a great base for lots of great day adventures, so we decided to make the most out of it before our flights back to Bali and subsequent onward journeys.

Being so close to the famous Komodo island – famous of course for its pre-historic dragons – it was a given that Tom and I had to go and visit them. They are family after all.
We found a tour that combined both a trip to Rinca, the other island which inhabits the dragons as well as two snorkelling stops on the way back to Labuanbajo – making it a nice day trip, lunch and water included. We booked with Christian Adventures and cannot complain. The boat was big enough, the snorkelling equipment plenty and in good condition and the staff really friendly.
We set off at 7.30 am, together with our new found French friends (yes, French again!) Daniel and Roger, who are staying in the same bungalow complex as us. After having tried on our fins, we embarked the boat and set off into what promised to be a beautiful day.

We sailed past many of Indonesia smaller and bigger hilly islands, providing a stunning and very enjoyable backdrop...
