Stranded in horrendous Kuta, Bali

After climbing down Mount Ijen, our van drove us to Java’s harbour, where we caught a ferry to its neighbouring island Bali and from there a coach to Denpassar, Bali’s capital. The plan was to have 30 hours of rest in Kuta (being the closest town to the airport) and then fly further to Flores, yet another of Indonesia’s 14,000 islands. However, when we tried to book the flight in the evening for two days later, there didn’t seem to be any available and we could only book flights for the day after. Everyone told us how horrible Kuta was, full of (mostly Australian) pikeys – or ‘bogans’ – so we were slightly gutted about having to spend yet another night in Kuta, but thought we’d make the most out of it.
Thankfully we found an amazing hotel close enough to the action, but far enough removed to be quiet at night. Most importantly it had a nice pool, where we could be found pretty much the whole of the next days.
We had no inclination to explore Kuta and/or leave our beautiful oasis of calm.

Good side of Kuta.
